Onlays and Inlays
What are Onlays / Inlays?
A dental Onlay or Inlay is a better alternative to a traditional dental filling.
Here are the differences between a dental onlay, inlay, and filling..
Traditional Fillings
Made of a resin material matched to the color of your teeth.
Onlay
When one or more surfaces of a tooth are decayed instead of modifying the whole tooth we do a partial crown which is a much stronger material, looks better and last much longer than traditional filling.
Inlay
Similar to an only an inlay is used to fill in the space of the full chewing surface with a much stronger material than a traditional resin composite or amalgam filling. Only difference is it does not include the outer surfaces of a tooth (side walls).
Key benefits of Onlays and Inlays
#1
Preserves tooth structure
Unlike crowns which require significant tooth removal, inlays and onlays only remove the decayed portion, preserving more of the natural tooth.
#2
Strength and durability
Made from strong materials like porcelain, they can withstand biting force better than traditional resin fillings. This means than last much longer.
#3
Aesthetic appeal
- It can be as close as possible to match the color of your natural tooth, providing a more natural look. It is custom made in lab to perfectly fit the tooth, improving comfort and function. Most people wouldn't even be able to tell you have one. 😁😁😁
